I'm a bad blogger

It's true. I work for an interactive company that is developing quite a name for itself in the social media world, which I find exciting and extremely interesting. And yet, I am a terrible participant. I'd like to say I am going to change, but I know that as more things get added to my plate, my poor blog will once again go by the way-side. So sad because I really do enjoy writing.

So while I have your rapt attention, I will give a brief overview of what is new in the Pyles household.

  1. We got a second sweet pup named Brooklyn. He is a 16-week old little morkie. I would post a picture, but I find Blogger's picture tools extremely annoying so you will just have to look on Facebook to see his precious face. He's great.
  2. I am still working on-site at Walmart and learning a ton. I even got the opportunity to eat dinner with Bob Greenberg, founder of R/GA, this past Monday in New York City. It was such an experience to just get to absorb the conversation. I miss my team back at RFI but am glad I have had this experience. I've learned more about business in the past 6 months than I did during my 2 years in my MBA program!
  3. I cut my hair short and got bangs...and I hate it. Nathan, on the other hand, shaved his head and loves it (I like it too). I wish I could do the same. Hair is such a pain.
  4. Nathan sold his motorcycle as well as his beater car in exchange for something a bit more safe and practical, a 99 Toyota 4Runner. We're officially grown ups.

I think that's all the news-worthy happenings at the Pyles house as of late. Until next time...

Another year down

In 2008...
  • I graduated with my MBA from John Brown University.
  • Nathan and I both started new jobs - Nathan at ThinkPen Design in January and me at Rockfish Interactive in May.
  • We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary in May.
  • We spent the spring landscaping our side yard, experimenting with different plans (killing many of them) and learning all about the joys of home ownership.
  • Nathan upgraded his Vespa to a 2006 Triumph Bonneville (his new love.)
  • We attended 5 weddings - the Pruitts, Wheelers, Geppelts, Hackers, and Dukes.
  • We traveled a ton, including trips to Boston, Kansas City, Orlando, Tampa, Denver, Dallas, Branson, Savannah, and most recently, an amazing Christmas cruise with my family to Jamaica and Grand Cayman.
It's been a good year and we're looking forward to everything that God has for us in 2009. Cheers!

Walmart Social Media

Josh Benoff posted a great blog entry about Walmart's latest Social Media efforts. Check it out. Rockfish Interactive (the company I work for, in case you didn't know) has had the privlege of partnering with Walmart to create the Checkout Blog and the Elevenmoms Community.

It has been fun to watch Walmart jump into the conversations, particularly from an agency perspective. Beginning Monday, I will get an all new perspective of everything going on in Walmart Marketing & Communications. I will be moving my desk inside the Home Office walls to help out the Digital Marketing team for the next 90 days. It will be a great experience to jump on the bandwagon and drink the Kool-Aid for a few months. More details to come...stay tuned! :)

Memory Lane

Tomorrow Nathan and I are headed back to O-State for Homecoming. This will be our first trip back to campus in about 2 years. I never thought I would be so nostalgic about my alma mater, but I am so excited to be going back. The Cowboys are undefeated and ranked #8 right now - it's been many years since we've had such a great season. (Of course, we still have Texas and OU waiting in the wings...)

So, in honor of my upcoming trip down memory lane I have posted a few of my favorite college memories:

This was our dorm window Homecoming 2005, I think. I was President of the dorm and we had a window decorating contest. Nathan did the OSU - I did the Poka Dots...

One of the houses Homecoming display from Homecoming 2005 - a photo does not do it justice.

My small group gals in front at Walkaround during Homecoming - aw, I miss these girls! (And of course, I ruined the picture by being ridiculous!)

I heart JT!

And finally, our beautiful library on campus...and my long hair. *sigh* Those were the days!
